Major Mouse Databases and Centers

Databases and Projects with Mouse Subsections

  • GXD, Gene Expression Information Resource Project, a collaborative effort of The Jackson Laboratory, the MRC and University in Edinburgh, and associated laboratories in North America and Europe.
  • MTB, Mouse Tumor Biology Database has been designed to aid researchers in such areas as choosing experimental models, reviewing patterns of mutations in specific cancers, and identifying genes that are commonly mutated across a spectrum of cancers.
  • Portable Dictionary of the Mouse Genome  University of Tenessee, US
  • TIGR  Mouse Gene Index integrates research data from international mouse gene research projects. The goal of this project is to ultimately represent a non-redundant view of all mouse genes and data on their expression patterns, cellular roles, functions, and evolutionary relationships.
  • DHMHD, The Dysmorphic Human-Mouse Homology Database consists of three separate databases of human and mouse malformation syndromes together with a database of mouse/human syntenic regions. The mouse and human malformation databases are linked together through the chromosome synteny database. The purpose of the system is to allow retrieval of syndromes according to detailed phenotypic descriptions and to be able to carry out homology searches for the purpose of gene mapping.
  • FANTOM is a collection of functional annotations for the RIKEN full-length cDNA clones and provides not simply the gene functions themselves, but also many other informative and useful data describing functional information about the clones.
  • RIKEN Mouse Encyclopedia

  • IMSR International Mouse Strain Resources is a collaborative project between The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, USA and the Medical Research Council Mammalian Genetics Unit, Harwell, UK. It aims to give access to information concerning animal strains over the internet.
  • Mouse Stocks at Harwell Mammalian Genetics Unit, MRC UK. Harwell's mouse stocks contain a wide range of over 200 mutant, chromosome anomaly and inbred lines. The stocks are maintained for experimental and breeding purposes, and are available to investigators on request.
  • JAX® MICE Database Search
  • EMMA, the European Mouse Mutant Archive is a non-profit repository of the transgenic mouse lines. These lines are available for the  qualified research scientists.
  • ENU Mutagenesis Programme at the MRC Mammalian Genetics Unit, Harwell, is a large scale mouse genetics programme to identify new phenotypes of relevance to human disease. The programme will use high throughput screens devised by the consortium in order to survey thousands of progeny of ENU treated mice each year and identify those mice carrying novel phenotypes. Mice from the programme will be available to outside investigators.
  • ORNL Mutant Mouse Database Oak Ridge National Laboratory has a collection of several hundred mouse stocks, most of which propagate mutations induced by radiations or chemicals. Stocks listed in this database exist as one or more of the following: (a) live mice; (b) frozen embryos or sperm; and (c) selected frozen tissues. Except in some cases where active work is in progress at ORNL, these materials are available to outside investigators on special request.
  • FESA, the mouse Frozen Embryo and Sperm Archive facility at Harwell is one of the largest in the world and contains almost 1,000 stocks. These are available for recovery and supply as frozen embryos (some as frozen sperm) or breeding nuclei.
  • HUGO Mutation Database Initiative Non-Human Variation Databases
  • Mutation Research Genomics Initiative
  • NGRP National Genetic Resources Program
    • NAGP National Animal Germplasm Program
  • Transgenic and Targeted Mutant Animal Database at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • CLDB, Cell Line Data Base contains detailed information on 4.671 human and animal cell lines that are available in many Italian laboratories and in some of the most important European cell banks and cell culture collections.
  • MAFF DNA bank at Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan is responsible for the preservation of DNA and molecular information on agricultual organisms. This bank acts as a research support service.
  • DISC, DNA Information and Stock Center National Institute of Agrobiological Resources, Tsukuba, Japan.
  • HGMP-RC Biological Resources, including mouse and rat, UK
